Comisariada por Serge Fauchereau, la exposición ha
mostrado más de 230 obras de Mondrian, Molevitch,
Kupka, Delaunay, Soto, Vasarely, Kandinsky y Equipo
57, entre otros.
Desde el 18 de septiembre y hasta el 18 de noviembre de
2001 el CAAM ha exhibido en sus salas una muestra de excep­ción,
El Arte Abstracto y la Calerie Denise Rene, una amplia pa­norámico
del arte abstracto geométrico a través de la mirado de
una galería ejemplar que, a partir de la II Guerra Mundial, se
convirtió en aglutinadora de esta tendencia.
Comisariada por el prestigioso Serge Fauchereau -escritor
europeo nacido en Rochefort, Francia, ha publicado más de 30 li­bros
sobre arte, literatura y poesía traducidos en Europa, Japón y
China, colaborador habitual de numerosas revistas de arte inter­nacionales
y comisario de exposiciones tan importantes como: Pa­rís
- New York, París - Moscú, París - Berlín en el Centre Pompi-dou
de París y Europa, Europa en lo Kunsthalle de Bonn- la mues­tra
fue organizada en colaboración con el Centre Pompidou, que
ha prestado más de 30 obras de su colección.
Esta exposición recoge más de 230 obras de 75 artistas in­ternacionales.
A través de estos creadores y sus piezas -pinturas,
esculturas, obra gráfico, obra manipulable y obra de luz- la
muestra recorre un siglo de arte abstracto, desde sus fundadores
-Kupka, Mondrian, Delaunay y A r p - hasta las experimentaciones
de hoy en día -Bernor Venet o el canario Luis Palmero- pasando
por la Bauhaus alemana -Kandinsky, Albers-, el grupo de los
años 30 Abstraction-Creation -Herbin, Heurtaux, Cahn, Magne-l
l i - , la abstracción geométrica de lo posguerra -Dewasne, Equipo
57, Mortensen, Bill- o por el cinetismo -Vasarely, Soto, Cruz-
Diez, Agam, Morellet-,
Se troto de una recopilación muy ambicioso que, desde lo
labor de lo Galerie Denise Rene, hace uno revisión de esto ten­dencia
artística, uno de las que mayor trascendencia ha tenido en
la Historia del Arte, no sólo por su influencia determinante en otros
movimientos artísticos sino también por su incursión en otras face­tos
creativos, como lo publicidad, el diseño industrial o la modo.

Organised by Serge Fauchereau, ttie extiibition consisted
of over 230 works by Mondrian, Malevitch, Kupka,
Delaunay, Soto, Vassarely, Kandinsky and Equipo 57,
amongst others.
From September 18 to November 18 2001, there will be an
exceptional display at the CAAM rooms: Abstract art and the
Galerie Denise Rene, a broad view of geometrical abstract art
through the eyes of an exemplary gallery which became the
cohesive forcé of this trend after the Second World War.
Organisation is in the hands of the distinguished Serge
Fauchereau, a European writer born in Rochefort, France. He has
published over 30 books on art, literature and poetry, which have
been transloted in Europa, Japan and China, and is a frequent
contributor to a number of international art reviews. In addition,

La Galerie Denise Rene, creada en 1944, y apoyada desde
el principio por Victor Vasarely, reunió toda la abstracción cons­truida
non objetiva de posguerra. Desde su comienzo resaltó las
figuras de Herbin, Arp, Sonia Delaunay, Bill, Magnelli... Al calor
de este taller de confección convertido en galería de arte y apo­yada
en los creadores abstractos anteriores a la II Guerra Mun­dial,
Denise Rene defiende y propicia el esplendor de una nueva
generación de artistas como Jacobsen, Baertiing, Mortensen, De-wasne,
Deyrolle, entre otros, a la vez que organiza exposiciones
de trayectorias ya consagradas. Son ejemplos de estas últimas las
muestras que, sobre Mondrian, Albers y el grupo de abstracción
polaca, realizó a partir de los años 50.
En 1955 inauguró la muestra El Movimiento, dirigida por
Vasarely, que supuso el inicio del arte cinético. En ella intervinie­ron
el israelí Agam, el venezolano Soto, el suizo Tinguely, el da­nés
Jacobsen, el belga Bury, además de Duchamp y Calder. Pos­teriormente,
la Galerie Denise Rene fue también el caldo de culti­vo
para la creación del grupo de investigación del arte visual,
GRAV, del que forman parte Le Pare, Demarco, García Rossi,
Cruz-Diez, Yvaral, Morellet y Sobrino. Durante los años 50 y 60
llegó el esplendor de la Galería y el arte que se fiabía expuesto
en ella diez años atrás comenzó a reflejarse en la moda, diseños
gráficos, la publicidad, etc.
Denise Rene abrió una galería en Nueva York e incorporó
a los artistas americanos Chryssa e Indiana. Llegaron los años 80
y continuó su interés por las nuevas creaciones abstractas, así ha

The exhibition covers over 230 works by 75 international artists.
Through these creators and their pieces - paintings, sculptures,
graphic work, operable work and light work - the display takes
US through a century of abstract art, from its founders, Kupka,
Mondrian, Delaunay and Arp, to present-day experimentotion,
Bernar Venet and Cañarían Luis Palmero; calling at the Germán
Bauhaus, with Kandinsky and Albers and looking in on the
thirties group, Abstraction-Creation, with Herbin, Heurtaux, Cahn
and Magnelli; the geometrical abstraction of the post-war period,
with Dewasne, Equipo 57, Mortensen and Bill; and the kinetic art
of Vasarely, Soto, Cruz-Diez, Agam and Morellet.
It is an ambitious task of compilation which, with the
valuable effort of the Galerie Denise Rene, undertakes a review of
this artistic trend, ene of the most significant in the history of art,
not only because of its decisive influence on other artistic
movements but also because of the way it affected other creative
facets, such as publicity, industrial design and fashion.
The Galerie Denise Rene, founded in 1944, was backed
from the outset by Victor Vasarely. It brought together all the
non-objective constructed abstraction of the post-war period. In
the early days, figures like Herbin, Arp, Sonia Delaunay, Bill and
Magnelli carne to the fore. In the context of this art gallery,
formerly a dressmaker's workshop, Denise Rene, focussing on the
abstract creators of the period leading up to the Second World
War, defends and fans the splendour of a new generation of
artists like lacobsen, Baertiing, Mortensen, Dewasne and
Deyrolle, to mention but a few, while organising exhibitions of
established artists. In the latter área, we might speak of the
displays of the fifties onwards, centred on Mondrian, Albers and
the Polish abstract group.

y Sunagawa, el sueco Fraek, el iraní Moutashar y el canario Luis

In 1955, he inaugurated the exhibition, The Movement,
directed by Vasarely, marking the commencement of kinetic art.
The exhibition included Agam from Israel, Soto from Venezuela,
Tinguely from Switzerland, lacobsen from Denmark and the
Belgian Bury, in addition to Duchomp and Calder. Later, the
Galerie Denise Rene would play a part in the creation of the
visual arts research group, CRAV, whose members include Le Pare,
Demarco, García Rossi, Cruz-Diez, Yvaral, Morellet and Sobrino.
The fifties and sixties witnessed the gallery's heyday and the art
which had been exhibited there 10 years before started to be
reflected in fashion, graphic design, publicity and so on.
Denise Rene opened a gallery in New York, incorporating
American artists Chryssa and Indiana. By the time the eighties
arrived, his interest in new abstract creations was still in tact and
he has continued in the same vein to the present day.
Currently, a wide range of contemporary creators are
working with him, including the [apáñese Naraha and
Sunagawa, the Swedish Fraek, the Iranian Moutashar and the
Cañarían Luis Palmero.
