UN PROYECTO PARA ATLÁNTICA
En México, pueblo cultivador de la tierra, según el código Popol-Vuh, los pri­meros
hombres, creados de madera o barro, resultaron intentos fallidos. Es el
tercer intento, en el que se utiliza el maíz para amasar al nuevo hombre, el que
resulta perfecto. El maíz puede ser blanco, gris, amarillo, rosa, rojo o morado,
y por ello, siguiendo la leyenda, los hombres creados adquirieron diferentes
colores de piel. El maíz, adorado como deidad, es el alimento sagrado del alma.
El maíz como servidor del hombre ofrece sus hojas para hacer figuritas, su
tallo seco para construir techos, sus cabellos como diurético, sus residuos como
abono. De él se obtiene aceite, jabón, barniz, miel, alcohol etílico, almidón,
etc. Es la base de la alimentación del pueblo mexicano en sus distintas formas:
tortillas, atole, tamales, guisados, pozol, elote tierno, etcétera.
Deidad, planta sagrada, alimento espiritual, natural y medicinal de un país
que se basa y se desarrolla alrededor de su existencia desde hace aproximada­mente
3000 años antes de Cristo.
En México, sin maíz no hay país.
WITHOUT CORN, NO NATION
According to the Popul-Vu, the first men in the agrarian society of México were made
of wood and clay, and were failures. Only on the third attempt, when using com to
shape the new man, was the result perfected. Com can be white, grey, yellow, pink, red
or purple, which is why, according to legend, the men who were created had djfferent
skin colors. Com, worshiped as a deity, is the sacred noxuishment of the soul.
Com, as the servant of man, gives its leaves for the making of httle figures, its
dried cobs for construction, its hair as medicine and its waste for fertiüzer. It yields oil,
soap, vamish, honey, ethyl alcohol, starch, etc. In its many forms if is the basis for
Mexican diet: tortillas, atole, tamales, stews, pozol, soft elote, etc.
Deity, sacred plant, spiritual, natm-al and medicüial nonrishment for a comitry
that is based on and has been developed arovmd its existence since approximately
3,000 B.C.
In México, without com there is no nation.
