UN PORTAFOLIO PARA | A PORTFOLIO FOR ATLÁNTICA
Charo Oquet (RP) es origen de esta tentativa marital entre Repú­blica
Dominicana y Haití. Principalmente la fotografía de Choro
Oquet es más que todo un testimonio del carácter transnacional
de las preocupaciones artísticas de su tiempo, que subraya la
criollización y el mestizaje que caracteriza la cultura de la zona
del Caribe. Su simbiosis cultural, contemporánea y ancestral, con­firma
la permeabilidad de los límites, a un lado y otro del espejo,
y de los mundos que se intercambian y besan sin conflicto, afir­mándose
en sus propias singularidades que ambos aportan a la
isla, en matrimonio. Su compromiso experimental con la narra­ción
añade a lo mismo una credibilidad infrecuente en el arte de
la apariencia.

Charo Oquet (DR) is the originator of this would-be morriage
between the Dominican Republic and Haití. More than anything,
Charo Oquet's photography is o testimony of the transnational
nature of the artistic anxieties of her time, emphasising the
effects of the Creóle and miscegenotion on the culture of the
Caribbean área. The cultural symbiosis, contemporary and
ancestral, leaves no doubt as to the permeability of the frontiers
on both sides of the mirror and of worlds interchanging and
caressing each other in harmony, in a self-assertion of their own
peculiar characteristics, a gift to the island on the occasion of
their morriage. The artist's experimental commitment to
narration endows her work with a credibility not often found in
the art of appearance.
