• INTRODUCTION
PALABRAS DEL PRESIDENTE
TRABAJAR MAS Y MEJOR, OBJETIVO INMEDIATO
Visto de una manera panorámica, a través del cuantioso y detallado conjunto de datos que ofrece
esta Memoria, el año 1985 podría acaso resumirse mediante la referencia a cuatro o cinco hitos
significativos, que caracterizan la evolución del Puerto en estos últimos doce meses:
* La cifra de 2. 000. 000 de Tm. de mercancía general movida por el puerto, cantidad nunca antes
alcanzada y que significa un aumento del 18 por 100, en números redondos, sobre el año anterior,
superior además a la media nacional y a la de los Puertos más próximos, en los que incluso ha
descendido.
* La nueva caída del tráfico de productos petrolíferos (15 por 100 de reducción) y, sin duda a causa
de ella, la disminución del tonelaje medio de los buques que visitaron el Puerto.
* La recuperación del tráfico de contenedores (JO por 100 de aumento).
* La ejecución prácticamente íntegra (99 por 100) del Plan de Inversiones previsto, por casi 1.200
millones de pesetas, de los que más de 500 millones procedieron del cash flow generado por la propia
explotación del Puerto, que se incrementó en 1985 en casi un 20 por 100.
Ante este panorama, ¿cuál debe ser la valoración global del año y el pronóstico para los sucesivos?
Desde luego, no cabe esperar una importante recuperación del tráfico petrolero. La compañía
propietaria de la refinería de petróleos ha alcanzado los mayores beneficios de su historia con la
utilización de sólo el 49,9 por 100 de la capacidad de refino de la planta de Tenerife.
Por lo tanto, la recuperación del tráfico deberá venir de las cargas secas y, muy probablemente, del
trájico de avituallamiento, pese a que la evolución de este último en 1985 constituya el aspecto más
negativo del ejercicio, después de su espectacular incremento a finales de 1984. No obstante, en este
punto es obligado referirse a la inminente puesta en servicio de las factorías de suministro de «B.P.»
y «Ducar», en la que, lógicamente, puede confiarse como factor esencial para el aumento de las escalas
de bunker.
Y, sin embargo, a pesar de aquellos brumosos signos positivos, y de estas evidentes razones para
la esperanza, sería insensato pronosticar una franca recuperación de la actividad portuaria mientras
no se produzca la recuperación de la economía mundial y del tráfico marítimo internacional, a cuyas
variaciones tan sensible es el Puerto de Tenerife.
Por lo tanto, la actitud que es exigible de la Administración Portuaria y naturalmente también
de los empresarios y trabajadores, es la del que, vigilante, se prepara para mayores esfuerzos: es una
actitud que requiere disciplina laboral y eficacia empresarial, inversión pública en infraestructura y
privada en tecnología de manipulación, y en resumen rigor y trabajo.
Con esa actitud y el entusiasmo que puedan producir las variaciones positivas y los avances en
la evolución del Puerto, podremos obtener los mayores beneficios del esperado incremento del tráfico
marítimo y la actividad portuaria.

From a panoramic point of view, through the considerable andfull data ensemble this Report off ers,
1985 cou/d perhaps be resumed by ref ering to four or five significative quoitings:
* The amount of 2, 000, 000 Tm. of general goods moved by the port, which was never reached be/ore
and that means an increase of 18 per 100, in gross numbers, on the past y ear,Jurther higher to the national
medial average and to the one of other nearest ports, in which in has gone down.
* The new /ali of petroliferous products traffic ( 15 per 100 of reduction) and, undoubtedly beca use
of she, the decrease of the medial tonnage of the vessels that visited the Port.
* The recuperation of containers traffic (JO per 100 of increase).
* The practically complete performance (99 per 100) of theforeseen lnversion Planfor almost 1,200
millions of ptas., of which more than 500 millions proceed from the cash flow generated by the Port
development itseif, which was increased in 1985 in almost 20 per 100.
With this panorama, which must be the global valuation ofthe year and thefor ecastfor the next ones?
Of course, we do not must except for an important rescue of the petroliferous traffic. The company
proprietary of the petroleum refinery has reached the higher benefits of its history by using only the 49
per 100 of the refining capacity of Tenerife's plant.
So, the traffic recuperation will must comefrom the dry goods and, probably,Jrom the supplies traffic,
although the evolution of this one in 1985 is the most negative aspee! of the period, a/ter its spectacular
increase at th e end of 1984. Nevertheless, at this point it is indebted to refer to the inminent opening of
«B. P.» and «Ducar» suppf y fa ctories, which, logically, we can think about as an esential fa ctor for the
bunker sea/es increase.
And, however, although that brumous positive signs, and this evident reasons for the expectance, it
woufd be sensef ess to forecast a real rescue of the port activity while it do es not bring forth the rescue
of world economy and international maritime traffic, whose changes Tenerife's Port is so sensible to.
So, the attitude to be demanded from the Port Administration and of course from th e enterprisers
and workers, is that one of such a man who, watchful, is ready for higher effort s: it is an attitude that
requires fab our discipline and enterprising efficacy, public in version in substructure and prívate one in
handling tecnology and, to resume, rigour and work.
With such an attitude and enthusiasm that positive variations and advances in Port evolution can
produce, we wifl be a ble to reach the highest benefits from the hoped increase of the maritime traffic and
port activity.

La distribución del tráfico de pasajeros en el puerto, durante el año 1985, fue la siguiente:

Los pasajeros en tránsito de buques turísticos ascendieron a 52.176.
Los tripulantes de los buques entrados en el puerto , durante el año 1985, fueron 74.077 los
correspondientes a los buques de tráfico interinsular, 33.820 los de buques con península y 90.677 los
de buques extranjeros. Todos ellos hacen un total de 198.574.
Tráfico de buques
Durante 1985 entraron en el puerto 7.027 buques, con una disminución de 205 en relación al año
anterior. El T.R.B. de los buques entrados disminuye también en un 10,5 por 100. El principal
descenso del tráfico de buques y registro bruto, se debe a los buques mayores de 50.000 T.R.B. , cuyas
entradas descendieron en 35 unidades con cerca de 3,6 M. de T.R.B.
De la flota española entraron 4.972 buques con cerca de 14,5 M. de T.R.B. ; extranjeros lo hicieron
2.055 con 25,9 M. de T.R.B. En número de buques, los españoles representaron el 70,7 por 100 y los
extranjeros el 29,3 por 100 y en T.R.B. son respectivamente el 35,9 por 100 y el 64,1 por 100.
Las banderas más importantes, después de la española, son las de la URSS, con 620 buques y
4.338.090 T.R.B. ; Liberia con 104 buques y 3.631.260 T.R.B. y Panamá con 216 buques y 2.021.511
T.R.B.
Tráfico de mercancías
Las mercancías totales, manipuladas en el puerto, incluida la pesca y el avituallamiento, fueron
12.267.220 t. , con disminución en relación al año anterior de 1.198.410 t. , que supone un 8,9 por 100.
Del tráfico, corresponden 7.004.055 toneladas a mercancías descargadas , 4.186.112 toneladas a
cargadas, 992.712 toneladas a avituallamiento y 71.215 toneladas a pesca.

Los productos petrolíferos tuvieron un importante descenso, tanto en la entrada como en la salida,
así como en el avitual lamiento, sin embargo la mercancía general se incrementó considerablemente,
sobrepasando los dos millones de toneladas.
Utilización del puerto
El atraque disponible en los muelles de la Junta, durante 1985, fue de 6.021 metros lineales.
La utilización de los atraques fue de 1.263.145 metros lineales de eslora y días de atraque. Por
tanto, la ocupación de muelles ha sido del 57,5 por 100.
La utilización media de las grúas de la Junta durante el año ha sido de 638 horas.
Obras y adquisiciones
Durante el año, ha continuado la ejecución de dos importantes obras, la de «Terminación del
Dique del Este. l.ª Fase» y la de «Defensa de la Dársena Sur». En el ejercicio se invirtieron 428,8
millones de pesetas en la primera y 585 ,5 millones en la segunda.
Como principal obra terminada puede destacarse la de «Iluminación de la carretera TF-111 de
Santa Cruz a San Andrés» con presupuesto total de 31,4 millones de pesetas.

The number of passengers in transit of touristic ships rised to 52, 176.
Ships crews desembarked at the port, during 1985, were 74,077 corresponding to inter-islands traffic
vessels, 33, 820 corresponding to península traffic vessels and 90, 677 corresponding to foreign vessels. Ali
of them give a total amount of 198,574.
Vesse/s traffic
During 1985, 7, 027 vessels entered the port, with a decrease of 205 respect to the last year. The G.R. T.
of the entered vessels decreases in a 10.5 per 100 too. The principal vessels traffic and gross register
decrease is due to vessels bigger than 50,000 G.R. T., whose en trances decrease in 35 units with afmost
3.6 M. of G.R.T.
4, 972 vessels from the Spanish fleet with almost 14. 5 M. of G.R. T. entered the port; so did 2, 055
foreign vessels with 25.9 M. of G.R.T. The number of Spanish vessels represented 70. 7 per 100 andforeign
ones represented 29. 3 per 100, beeing G.R. T. 35. 9 per 100 and 64.1 per 100, respective/y.
The most importantflags, after the spanish one, arefrom USSR (620 vessels and 4,388,090 G.R.T.);
Liberia (104 vessels and 3,631,260 G.R.T.) and Panama (216 vessels and 2,021,511 G.R.T.).
Goods traffic
The total amount of goods handling at the port, includedfishing and supplies, was 12,267,220 T., with
a drecrease of 1, 198,410 T. respect to the last year, which supposes 8.9 per 100.
With reference to traffic, 7,044.055 T. correspond to unloaded goods, 4, 186, 112 T. to loaded ones,
992,712 T. to supplies and 71,215 T. tofish.

Use of the Port
The available berth at Junta quays, during 1985, was 6,021 l.m.
The use of berths was 1,263, 141 f.m. of length and berth da y s. So, the quays occupancy has been 57.5
per 100.
The use average of Jun ta cranes during the y ear has been 638 hours.

Works and purchases
During the year, the performance of two important works has continued: «Conclusion of East Dike.
lst Phase» and «Protection of South Dock». 428. 7 millions of pesetas were invested during the period
in the first work and 585.5 millions in the second one.
As principal performanced work drafts «Illumination of the TF-111 road from Santa Cruz to San
Andrés» with a total estimation of 31. 4 millions of pesetas.

Para su suministro de combustible a buques fo ndeados en la bahía, la Compañía
Española de Petróleos dispone de varias embarcaciones autopropulsadas con capacidades
de tanques ba ta 1.300 Tm. de combustible líquido, que pueden servir a razón de 460 Tm.
por hora. Para el suministro de agua , en buques fondeados, dispone la J unta del Puerto
de dos alj ibes a utopropulsados de 400 y 600 m3 de capacidad .
The Compañía de Petróleos has sorne self-propel/ed boats with tanks capacities that reach
1, 300 T. of liquid combustible far supplying vessels brought up the harbour. They can serve
460 T/ hour. The Junta del Puerto has two self-propelled water-tanks far water supply of 400
and 600 m2 of capacity.

Situados los muelles a lo largo de la costa en una longitud de 8.000 m. se enlazan entre sí por la Vía Litoral del Puerto
que en su tramo, entre el Dique Sur y Muelle Norte, tiene una longitud de 1.397 m. y un ancho de 34 m. El resto, hasta
el Dique Este, tiene un anch0 de 20 m. Toda la vía está pavimentada con aglomerado asfáltico.
2.7.1.2. Ferrocarriles
No hay vías férreas.
2. 7.2. Accesos Terrestres
2.7.2.1. Por Carretera
El Puerto se comunica con el resto de la isla y con los dos Aeropuertos internacionales por las Autopistas del Norte
y del Sur y, en la Dársena de Pesca, con la nueva Autovía a San Andrés.
Las Autopistas se enlazan con el Puerto, por el Sur, con la Avenida del 3 de Mayo, de 1.400 m. de longitud y 34 m.
de anc;ho y la Avenida de José Antonio de 750 m. de longitud y 30 m. de ancho; en las proximidades del Muelle Norte,
por la Rambla del General Franco, de 30 m. de ancho y la Vía Litoral con la Autovía a San Andrés.
2. 7 .2.2. Por ferrocarril
No hay vías férreas en la isla.
2.7.2.3. Por tuberías
La Refinería de la Compañía Española de Petróleos (C.E.P.S.A.) está conectada con los muelles por trece (13) tuberías
con las características y para los servicios siguientes: para suministros, tres (3) tuberías de 203 mm. y 250 Tm. de capacidad
cada una; cuatro (4) tuberías de 254 mm. y 375 Tm. de capacidad y cinco (5) tuberías de 305 mm. y 500 Tm. de capacidad
cada una y para la descarga de crudos una (l) tubería de 406 milímetros y 2.000 Tm. de capacidad.

The docks are located along the sohrt in a length of 8,000 m. They are connected by the Port Littoral Road that has a

almacenamiento de 3,5 Ha., así como instalaciones para desca rga de crudos y de granos en el Dique del Este y de dos
Rampas para descarga por la popa.
The Por/ has a Containers Base with specia/ Portal Crane for this traffic anda storing base 3.5 Ha., so as instal/ations
for crudes and granes at East Dike and two slipways for poop desembarking.
